In 1977, the Graduate Chapter of Omicron Alpha decided that there was a need to institute an undergraduate chapter on the campus of UNCW. In March, Dr. Daniel Rome MD (Former Basileus of Omicron Alpha) consulted with the administration of UNCW. The administration then called for all undergraduates interest in joining the fraternity to contact the Dean of Student Affairs. After eligibility and grades were determined, 22 undergraduates were asked to report to the residence of Dr. Rome for interviews. There that night in March, 22 undergraduates were inducted into the pledge program along with one graduate. On December 17th, 1977, the culmination of the pledge period came to an end with the induction of 6 undergraduates and one graduate member.

These men were: William White, Paul Hardison, Douglas White, Harris McIntyre (Graduate Pledge), Kevin Wright, Percy Brown and Derrick Anderson

On December 28th, 1979, a charter was granted at UNCW with the name of IOTA LAMBDA.

Accomplishments of Iota Lambda Members:

--> Brother Derrick Anderson founded the Black Student Union which is still in works to this day
